Coterie (koh tuh ree) noun: A small, exclusive group of friends or people with common interests
REGISTRATION FOR THIS CLASS IS NOW CLOSED
Would you like to increase your collage skills and make collage a more integral part of your art? Collage Coterie is a new online workshop especially designed to celebrate the fun of vintage collage!
The workshop is 8 full lessons, beginning on August 15th. It takes place on a private blog, twice a week over 4 weeks, with a session every Sunday and Thursday.
In each session you’ll receive:
- A new collage sheet, ready to print and use: vintage collage images, backgrounds or patterns
- New ideas and instructions, including step-by-step sample collage
- A new prompt for a technique or image from that session. Use it as a starting point, or go in your own direction!
You’ll have the opportunity to share your artistic creations and your artistic experiences with others in the workshop, in an invitation-only Flickr group. Participate as much or as little as you’d like.
I'll demonstrate collage for ATCs, altered books, notebooks, vintage book covers and more. You can choose what kinds of mediums you use and what projects you create.
You'll see easy mixed media techniques to use with collage - dreamy painted backgrounds, simple embellishment ideas, embossing your papers, coloring images and more.
Before class even begins, you can access a dozen bonus collage sheets in the class album – including images, backgrounds and patterned papers.
You’ll enjoy individual attention. I respond to every comment or email and encourage you on every picture you post. (I’m happy to give private suggestions about your pieces if you request it)
Collage Coterie Online Workshop is just $30 for all 8 sessions
There’s no need to take any other class first – this one stands alone.
The workshop has something for any skill level and is especially great for a beginner. If you’re starting from scratch, there are lots of tips and tricks. If you’re an experienced artist, and want to get a look at how other artists create, you’ll appreciate the step-by-steps.
Supplies:
You’ll probably get through this entire workshop using the supplies you already have in your studio. It’s not necessary to follow each lesson exactly, so choose what you like and add your own ideas and techniques.
You will need to have typical supplies like scissors and glue, and well as access to a printer to print the class image sheets. You’ll also need one or more things to work on, like a book, notebook, or watercolor paper.
A list of every supply I will use is posted on the class blog, so you’ll have access to it before you start.
Class Format:
I like using the blog format for online classes – it’s easy for artists who are already familiar with the Internet. Students will access the blog at their convenience and new lessons will post twice a week for 4 weeks.
To be successful in this course, you should have basic computers skills. While much of the content is in the form of blog posts, there will also be documents and images to download in each lesson.
Images are provided in 2 ways so they’re convenient for everyone: You can choose to use the easy-to-print PDF collage sheets; or the same sheets are available in jpeg form in the blog’s photo album. There are no digital picture skills necessary, other than downloading and printing the images.
While the live blog posts are scheduled from August 15th through September 9th, the workshop can be joined at any time.
The Class blog will remain open online for 7 months after the end of class - through April 30th. The online Flickr group will be available indefinitely.
Collage Coterie Online Workshop is just $30 for all 8 sessions.
