And now for something completely different...

Artist Class started today and is going swimmingly. Thanks to everybody who signed up today - they reminded me to announce that registration is still open, and there's plenty of time to do the projects - the site will be open through February!

We've started with Tammy Sprinkle's Homage to a Loved One assemblage and wait until you see mine...well it's not finished yet. I had a lot of work to do today!

Silver Bella Vendor Faire is in 3 weeks! Eek! Want to see some of what I'm putting together? Here you go...

I love sorting through all this stuff, and packing it up. It's so fun to have Victorian scrap spread all over the dining room table..the oddest things make us happy, don't they?

I'm really trying to focus on portable things - easy to tuck into a suitcase. I have a lot of classic mixed media supplies, but still plenty of obscure and one-of-a-kind items - I'll show you some of those next time.

They're edits of some of the pieces in the French Holy card collection. The images have been altered to remove the text and the religious imagery.  I use them as backgrounds, frames, and accent imagery in my art - and also just write notes on them.  So pretty.

If you'll be there and want me to save a set for you, just let me know!

Time to Make the Ephemera Books...

I gave away a bunch of book covers in the last few weeks...

It doesn't seem to matter, they're multiplying. It's time to get to work on some ephemera book kits!

I'll have at least a couple kits for Etsy soon, and have the others ready by the time Silver Bella rolls around...and I'll try not to add any more to the stack between now & then!

You might have heard I run with a dangerous crowd....

Beth told me about an estate sale which included more books than some libraries, so of course I had to stop by. This is a picture of today's haul, lots of great pages and great covers. I may be able to use most of these covers for ephemera book kits - I'm working on a batch to take to Silver Bella.

While having bagels with my sister and brother-in-law this morning, my sister asked if I want their old wood ladder. It has chipping white paint and is pretty worn...hmmm.

My BIL asked why my sister thinks I would like it and Roni said "that's the kind of thing they like" and he said "They?" and she said, "You know, that artist crowd she hangs out with."

After I finally stopped laughing and dried my eyes I told her, yes, I will take the ladder.

Things I have learned because I am a Silver Bella vendor...

You have too many cards when you can't get them all into the cool antique suitcase. My choices to resolve this are:

1. Move the snapshots and put more cards in the lid
2. Triage - some cards will have to stay behind
3. Better get a bigger suitcase

Packing ephemera assortments is fun...but it overflows into every available work areas in the house.  My choices to resolve this are:

1. Make peace with it - we never have people over anyway
2. Forget packing assortments - dump all the ephemera into an antique suitcase...oh, wait no...
3. Better get a bigger house

 

On a side note...I painted my fingernails orange. I think it's fun. My son says he can't take anything I say seriously with orange finger nails. Spoil sport.

How was your evening?

Crafting today...

I had a great crafting day today! First I met Marilyn, Shawn & Bethany for a yummy lunch of enchiladas and lots of chips. Then we went to Karla's house where Beth joined us later...and we crafted all afternoon. As I was leaving, Karla said, "Have a good night" and I thought that was odd...until I got in my car & saw it was after 6:00pm. Time flew by today. 

I've been working on collage sheets to take to Silver Bella and am trying to get the paper and ink choices just right. I've been having some things printed as tests, like these assorted images I used in my gluebook today. Today's style of paper didn't make the cut - too thick & too shiny.  

The fruit over on the left is from the French dictionary I'm working on scanning right now. The butterfly is from the Black & White collection and printed on ledger paper. The blue floral background is adapted from the back of a Logomachy card.

The sea shell background here is from the french dictionary.

There's more French dictionary fruit on the top left, the boy in the snow is from the children's science book I've scanned (the 4 seasons in the garden pictures in the free downloads section came from this book.) Over on the right, the background is scrapbook paper made from another style of Logomachy cards.

I took my box of book covers with me & asked everybody to take any they wanted, and managed to unload about half.  Karla sat right down and used 2 covers, one on top of another, and made an incredible piece - I hope she shows it on her blog later.

Will I see you at Silver Bella?

I have very exciting news - I'll be one of the lucky Bella Market vendors at this year's Silver Bella in Omaha, Nebraska.  Bella Market will be Friday evening, November 13th. This is my first year, but I've heard so many great things that I just can't wait. What to bring...what to bring...

 

Expect to see ephemera books, lots of paper, vintage cards and photos...and collage sheets. I'm creating collage sheets for the first time, so Bellas can have images already printed and ready to use.  The images will be straight out of my collections, especially Logomachy cards and French Holy cards. 

 

If you're going to be there too, I would love to say Hi. And if you have any special requests of things you'd like me to bring...please let me know!
