Yesterday was craft day at Karla's and it was wonderful. Everybody was there: Beth, Marilyn, Shawn & Bethany. I don't think I've laughed so well in months.
The food was delicious - everybody pitches in and brings something. Shawn brought beer cheese soup and homemade pretzels, Marilyn brought a decadent fruit salad, Beth brought her chicken salad and Karla stocked us up on deserts. I pitched in some fresh veggies.
For a change I didn't bring my paper or my gluebook, but Marilyn brought hers. Shawn worked on cards and Beth and Karla both made tags for Karla's upcoming Alice Tag Book Swap.
I worked on my fabric cuff for Lilla LeVine's tutorial for Artist Class. I'd tell you that I'm proud to have sewn all of it by hand, but then I would have to admit that I don't own a sewing machine. It's one of those purchases I just keep circling, I'll probably break down eventually.
Lilla's version has bits of lace she dyes herself but I didn't get to that part of the instructions yesterday...
Yesterday Beth brought vintage finds for me - she always has cool things I want to buy so we do our business on craft day. Yesterday I scored a 1914 Larousse French dictionary, a little date book and a bunch of vintage seed bags. All very cool.
Today I cut up one of the seed bags. I'm using the fabric for the project in Teresa McFayden's Freestyle Embroidery E-Zine. (you thought I only did Artist Class tutorials, didn't you?)
This fabric's a little rougher than the linen Teresa recommends, but should still work fine. My embroidery skills are so rusty that a rough fabric might be a great match with my wonky stitches. I did part of the project and then practiced some French knots...most turned out pretty well.
Yesterday I learned that Beth is also doing Teresa's e-zine. She may use seedbag fabric too. Beth's so nice, she asked if I needed any floss. She doesn't know about my half finished cross stitch projects.
So, here's my floss box:
I hope no one finds out about the incredible amount of jewelry making supplies I own and rarely use anymore. My secret's safe with you, right?
